Connect Instagram

Instagram sets two requirements before it will connect, both of them Instagram’s and Meta’s own rather than Fohr’s, and Fohr can’t work around either one. Connecting depends on meeting them in order.

Switch to a Business or Creator account

From Instagram: Settings > Account > Switch to Professional Account. A personal account has no access to the metrics API brands need, so it can’t connect at all.

Create or link a Facebook Page to that account

A Meta requirement for all Business API access, not something Fohr added. You can do this from either app.

Go to Connect Accounts and select Connect on the Instagram card

Starts the connection to Fohr.

Sign in and authorize access on Instagram's own screen

Completes the connection. How you authorize here also decides what brands can see.

A Facebook Page and a Facebook profile are different things. A profile is your personal account, and a Page is the business-and-creator equivalent. It can stay unpublished and unused. It only needs to exist and be linked to your Instagram account. Each Page connects to one Instagram account only. You can create or link one from either app:

WhereHow
FacebookMenu > Pages > Create New Page
InstagramEdit Profile > Page > Create Facebook Page
Instagram (linking an existing Page)Profile > Edit Profile > Page > Connect or Create a Page
Facebook (linking an existing Page)Pages > Settings > Instagram > Connect Account

How you connect changes what brands see

Instagram limits what outside apps can see, and that limit depends on how you connect:

Connection typeWhat brands see
Facebook connectionThe fullest picture: posts, Stories, saves, shares, and detailed analytics
Instagram connectionPosts, captions, likes, comments, and basic insights, without Stories, saves, or shares
Public Profile linkPublic information only, with no private metrics and no Stories

Saves, shares, reposts, and Stories are only visible through a Facebook connection, so connecting that way shows brands engagement that a follower count alone hides. Fohr recommends the Facebook route for that reason, and offers the Instagram route for creators without a Page.

Troubleshooting

Two questions come up most often when a connection fails outright or goes quiet later, and both have a quick answer:

Instagram won't connect #

Instagram connects only from a Business or Creator account with a Facebook Page linked to it, and the connection won’t complete while either one is missing. Meet both requirements first, then start again from Connect Accounts.

Your Instagram data looks stale #

Changing your Instagram password disconnects Fohr, and nothing tells you it happened. Reconnect it from Connect Accounts. Expect up to 24 hours for the old content to clear and the new account’s content to appear.
